The promotion of physical activity is an important public initiative in our society due to increasing levels of obesity. Most are simply not achieving a sufficient level of daily physical activity. It’s difficult for many to work up enough motivation to get into a consistent workout routine. There is some evidence that 30 - 60% of people who intend to follow through with exercise do not actually do so, and of those that do, up to half will drop out of their regimen before the 6-month mark. So it’s important to identify what factors will be most important in both follow-through and long-term-adherence.

After reading my first two articles, I’m sure you were all so incredibly inspired that you jumped on your bike (Eco-friendly, duh), pedaled furiously to the closest yoga studio, rolled out your mat as quickly as possible, then fell into child’s pose and let everything beyond your mat fade away like the lights during savasana (in layman’s terms, the well deserved rest at the end of class.) Post class, you were most likely so Zen that you calmly depleted your kitchen cabinets of all processed foods and artificial sweeteners before a short, twenty minute meditation. Did I nail it? Didn’t think so.
